I dutifully set the scene - a nice white wall and a white countertop - intending to pose resting my chin on my hands or something (and feeling deeply uncomfortable about every move - posing for a selfie - what a weird thing to do). I put a stack of plates on the edge of the counter so that I could set the focus and check the lighting, and then I moved the plates out of the way, all ready to get into position...
Except that I must have unwittingly pressed the timer button already because the first shot is of me moving the plates! I took a few more afterwards, but they were all very awkward, self-conscious and badly framed. That first one kind of sums up the ridiculousness of the whole situation. Taking a picture of myself, pfff, what a hopeless nerd. With broken fingernails.

That's actually a REALLY cool picture!!! Funny story! I had the same awkward feelings. So forced and staged. Ugh...Torture!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat take on the prompt! Your finger nails looks great to me! SMILE!
ReplyDeleteI too had trouble take self portaits for this week.. in the end I used my hb's sony cybershot compact camera as it was easier to use compared to my own semi DSLR.
ReplyDeleteLOL, you know if you intended to do that it would've never worked. I felt like a dork smiling at myself in the mirror.
ReplyDeleteha ha ha - how many have I taken with only half my head in - so I can totally relate. good shot though anyway and it has your hands in so surely it counts!!
ReplyDeleteNice composition and cute ring! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy accident! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteIt's a really cute picture. I much prefer self portraits that are a different take ;)
ReplyDeleteI did a photo challenge ages ago - my self portrait was a picture of me while I was moving the camera, so all blurry and distorted. My portrait of someone you love was a picture of my boyfriend's hand. Personally I think these sort of pictures are way more fun!
I found this week's theme rather challenging and awkward as well. Your photo immediately stood out. Sometimes it is the accidents that are the best pictures. Great job!
ReplyDeleteaw thank you!
DeleteShame it didn't get your ring in focus! ;-)
ReplyDeleteNice photo but big cop out, Missus!
total cop out ;0)
DeleteI should prob join in with this one. One photo a week on a theme would get me using my camera and start learning. Have just looked at the standards, though, and I will be well out of my depth!!
ReplyDeleteyou must! it's totally brilliant, and it does force you to spend even 10 minutes a week looking for or setting up a picture. do it do it do it
DeleteMine also ended up being of my hands...though I didn't admit that when I started I tried the chin on my hands and ended up with a picture of my double chin in focus...ended up with just the hands too!
ReplyDeleteI love all those blue-white porcelain plates! Reminds me of the plates back home, hwo they all don't really match, but are same-ish. and that's a briliant shot btw!
ReplyDeletespot on Shu Han, I'm all about the mismatch. about 10 years ago I told my then boyfriend (now husband) that he should give me a stern word if at any point in our future I am ever tempted by a matching 3 piece sofa set, or a full matching dinner service!
DeleteA happy accident :) Visiting from Project 52.

Lovely "self portrait" capture... this was a very difficult challenge... but it was also very eye opening for me to get in front of the camera more often... as uncomfortable as it may be ;)
ReplyDeleteNice, real shot. I have broken fingernails, too. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the back story here, and the everyday-ness of the photo.
ReplyDeleteGetting everything set up well enough was a challenge for me as well.
I like it too! I think a lot of women may need some therapy after this week's prompt...i know I do!
ReplyDeleteagreed - it is so awkward to get in front of the camera when you are always behind it. loved your photo - and that ring!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. Sometimes mistakes are the best pictures.
ReplyDeleteThat's great! I can totally relate. I was never in the right position when the timer went off. I love the blue and white of the dishes, too. I have a few pieces of my Grandmothers willow ware. I love it.
ReplyDeleteOh I love this, such pretty plates and ring. Pure spontaneity, and absolutely precious!
ReplyDeleteI think that sometimes the oops moments are the best ones in life. I too avoided the traditional self-portrait. I love the stack of mismatched blue and white dishes!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great composition actually! Great pic :)
ReplyDeleteI love the composition of this- beautiful!
